ChinaCache Cooperates with Youku Router, Creating New CDN Ecosystem

On August 26, ChinaCache, the leader in China’s CDN industry, announced its cooperation with Youku Router, the game changer in routing industry, to jointly create a new ecosystem in the CDN field in China. Both sides have reached strategic cooperation for intelligent terminal content sinking program, to build together a completely new CDN acceleration ecosystem and establish a win-win strategy pattern for ChinaCache, Youku Tudou and terminal users. The intelligent terminal sinking program creates a new CDN business model, taking Youku Router as the carrier for network content storage to achieve network content scheduling, traffic guidance and content delivery for end users by means of built-in intelligent delivery software independently developed by ChinaCache, push CDN acceleration service to household sides, and become the “CDN acceleration nodes” closest to the end users. This acceleration model will completely improve terminal users’ online surfing experience and fully accelerate the access speed for large-traffic content such as file downloads and video watching.

The intelligent terminal sinking program establishes access and return mechanisms between equipment and ChinaCache nodes, between equipment, and between equipment and source sites, to realize comprehensive and efficient content scheduling. ChinaCache will push the content to the storage space offered by Youku Router, directly return the content sources to the end users or through node scheduling, schedule the access and request of the end users to the location closest to the users, select the optimal data return path for the users, and realize the fastest access speed. Meanwhile, the user access paths build a big data resource pool, which can help to decide in advance the user consumption mindset and access habits based on the analyses on user behaviors, geographical locations and browsing hobbies, push the Internet content in advance which the users may be interested in, and maximize network access experience.

The imbalance of China's bandwidth resources and the characteristics of north and south areas operated by different operators have led to poor experience of China broadband users. When online videos become the channel for users to obtain basic information, bandwidth resources have become the section which needs the most improvement. Although video sites and CDN service providers are trying to improve the bandwidth resources of Chinese users, in fact, due to limited user coverage of the CDN service providers and the fact that video websites won’t focus on improving user bandwidth as its operating priority, the users cannot smoothly watch big stream HD video content though the current video websites have a large number of HD videos. The cooperation of ChinaCache, the leader of Chinese CDN industry, and Youku Router, the game changer in the router field, is expected to fundamentally change the bandwidth issue of Chinese Internet users when they are watching videos.

Currently, Youku has had 250 million active users. Through the cooperation with ChinaCache, each Youku user is expected to turn to a CDN node. Once achieved, Youku users will use ChinaCache’s network acceleration technology to rebuilt a virtual CDN network owning over 100 million nodes on top of China backbone network, which will completely satisfy the hunger for bandwidth resources of Chinese Internet users.

In fact, every Youku user or Internet user mainly uses downlink channels (download) when using broadband, and their uplink channels (upload) are mainly in idle state. To make full use of the idle resources of the users (Youku has already tried to give the users subsidies) and rebuild virtual CDN network based on China backbone networks are the most economic way to improve the current bandwidth situation for Internet users. Comparing to the construction of Chinese backbone networks, this measure is fast, effective, more cost saving, and green.

ChinaCache will surely expand its node number rapidly through the CDN acceleration technology embedded in Youku Router, while Youku, by means of subsidies, can turn over 200 million users to CDN nodes quicily, which has immeasurable values in the future for the CDN industry. At present, there is no such enterprise in the world which can expand its CDN nodes rapidly to the level of millions. It can be said that the cooperation between Youku and ChinaCache will not only change Youku user’s experience, but also bring a new ecology to Chinese CDN industry.

In the future, based on ChinaCache resources in operators, and broadcasting and television industry, Youku Router will be integrated into tailor-made customer solutions in a package, to meet their content acceleration and optimization demands, while ChinaCache also conducts technical exploration and sharing with Youku Router in the fields of application download delivery and game acceleration.
